The set of winter tires for the missus have seen the last of thei r  usefulness. The question I pose to the collective genius that is the Oppo hive mind, do I replace in kind with good tires or spring for a possibly better tire?

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Blizzak+WS80&partnum=345HR7WS80&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

I’ve had both of these at one point. The old Mustang had the Blizzaks. Never had an issue. The missus had the iPikes. Both good tires but completely different applications so direct comparisons are difficult.

What say you, Oppo?

I’m pro Blizzak but holy hell they’ve gotten expensive

I bought my Brudgstone WS80's from discount tire for $605 mounted and balanced plus a $50 cash card. 205/55- R16 for reference.

I bought a set of Blizzaks WS80s for the missus just this weekend..

Looking forward to a winter of boring predictable winter driving.

The bigger sizes for sure. I spent $ 6 05 for 4 mounted and balanced 205/55/ -16's. I typically get 15-20k miles from a set.

I’m gonna say don’t bother with studs. Useless on any surface except ice or thoroughly compacted snow (hard enough it may as well be ice) , and they’ll reduce traction on dry or wet roads until the studs are worn down enough that they aren’t doing anything on ice. Plus they tear up the road surfaces for pretty . A good set of studless will do you much better unless you’re putting on a lot of miles on roads that don’t exist in the summer.

I really like the Blizzak WS80s I put on my Mini last winter. They are damn good for ice racing too.

I had ws80s for two years and they made my old car without abs or traction control bearable. Just bought Continental winter contact SI for my GTI t hey are newer but according to Car and Driver better than the Bridgestone in the dry and wet and very close in snow. My dad put contis on his car last year and they were as good as his old blizzaks .   Those or the Michelin x ice xi3 which I'm planning on buying for another car because of $70 rebate that ends this month

I’m not doing studs. I’m too cheap and Denver doesn’t get enough snow to warrant them.

Ah. Your first link won’t take me directly to a tire page but the link itself says “studded”. And good call. Unless the roads are literally paved with ice and packed  snow they won’t do you any good anyhow.

It does say that but I figured I could order them without. That was my plan anyway.
